# Introduction

The `ambdes` model has been developed as a pilot/prototype/test of creating a open-source DES model to support modelling demand etc.,

some context… The model of the ambulance system represents incidents across four response categories:

- C1 - life-threatening incidents
- C2 - emergency incidents
- C3 - urgent incidents
- C4 - less urgent incidents

The primary output is category 2 mean response time, and resource utilisation is a secondary output.
